The World Confederation of Past Pupils organised a conference with the theme, ‘School for Leaders’ from the 23rd to 26th April 2009 at Zafferana, Sicily. Alberto Ebejer, secretary of the Sliema Oratory unit, represented Malta. Past Pupils from Italy, Spain, England and Malta took part. The exchange of experience was a very good one. The only drawback was that the Mass and most of the speeches were in Spanish and Italian. The English speaking

15th to the 16th April was dedicated to the SBGB Easter Camp held at ‘Swatar’ L/O Santa Katerina at Dingli. With the theme: Jimpurtani minn hadd iehor / I care because everybody is special, 18 campers under the guidance of 3 officers pitched tents and cleaned up the area for a fantastic camp. Activities included cooking and cleaning, fall-in, prayers and reflection, night walks at Girgenti, trekking in rough terrain from Ghajn Tuffieha to Fomm ir-Rih, swimming, games, nature study, survival, campfire, campcraft and lots of free time and fun.The Holy Week services were held as usual at the Oratory Chapel. Many people attend these services because they enjoy the atmosphere created by the well prepared services and the pageant presented by the youth of the Oratory.
This year’s theme was: ‘Ghax Habbek, Miet Ghalik’ (Because He Loved You, He died for you). The pageant was well prepared and it helped those present to enter into the spirit of the liturgy and helped them to get in touch with the experience Christ lived 2000 years ago.
On Good Friday, the Fife and Drums of the Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade participated in the traditional Holy Week Procession that ‘Ta’ Giesu’ Church organizes every year along the streets of Valletta. The SBGB have been participating in this devotional and colourful procession for over sixty years.
