After carrying out some research, and creating some imaginative episodes, I believe that I have concluded a good play on the life of this great gentleman, Alfons Maria Galea, one of the most generous philanthropists known in local history. You may be aware that he had a very close relationship with the Salesians, and was instrumental to donate land to the Salesians through the goodwill of his wife Liza and her family. To-day we boast of the Salesian complex in Sliema, including the Salesian Theatre.
The play is in the form of a narration and kicks off when Sur Fons was in his old venerable age, trying to write his biography, something, which he never succeeded to do. As a matter of fact his wife Liza had written some memories of his life and encounters through the years. Whilst he chats with a mysterious friend by the name of Anglu, we are taken through various flash backs and depict scenes of his life, from childbirth to his death bed at Bon Pastur convent in 1941.
Whilst going through the years, we understand his personality and realize his kindness, generosity, and the human aspect. We get close to his inner feelings, emotions, his political career, and other imaginative episodes based on the historical background at the time, including the famous ‘sette Gunju ‘episode.
I have agreed with author and singer Walter Micallef to make use of some of his powerful lyrics and songs, which are sung as a play back. I have also included some other Maltese songs through the kind co operation of other singers and authors including Paul Buhagiar, and Fiona.
I look forward in passing some enjoyable evenings together and thanks for your support.
Kindest regards
Lino
