Salesian Brigade

The Salesian Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade was founded in 1909 by the Salesians of don Bosco helped by the members of the King’s Own Malta Regiment of Militia. Its official inauguration took place in 1910. In 1911 the then S.B.B. (Salesian Boys’ Brigade) was the first company outside the British Isles to affiliate with the Catholic Boys’ Brigade of Great Britain. Owing to the 1914-1918 war connection with C.B.B. was completely disrupted. In 1938 the Brigade was further developed with the formation of a brass-band in addition to the fifes and drums which it already possessed. The Salesian Girls’ Brigade was inaugurated by H.E. the President of the Republic of Malta on Friday 27th April 1989. All members who form part of the S.B.G.B. frequent the Salesian Oratory which is also their headquarters. Camping, drills, expeditions, are some of the activities they hold on regular basis.
